The Buckingham School Inclusive Attendance
The Buckingham School is proudly recognised as an Inclusive Attendance School. Our unwavering commitment to attendance centres around child-centric actions, evidence-informed practices, and a shared understanding of everyone's roles and collective responsibilities to promote exceptional attendance.
Vision & Ethos: Promoting Inclusive Attendance
At The Buckingham School, our approach to school life is guided by The Buckingham Way — a framework built around three core choices: Respect, Responsibility, and Reflect. We believe that good attendance is a shared responsibility between the school, students, families, and the wider community. Everyone has a part to play in supporting young people to attend school regularly and confidently.
- Respect: We value the crucial role school plays in a young person’s growth and future.
- Responsibility: We work together to promote the importance of attending school every day.
- Reflect: As a school, we reflect on how we can create an environment that encourages attendance — a place students want to be. In turn, families reflect on how they can support routines and attitudes that help students leave home ready for learning.
Attendance Is a Whole-School Commitment
We recognise that students may struggle to attend for many reasons — including personal, social, safeguarding, or learning-related challenges. That’s why we approach attendance with understanding, care, and a commitment to inclusive support.
Across every aspect of school life — teaching and learning, pastoral care, SEND provision, and safeguarding — attendance plays a central role. Every staff member contributes to a culture where students feel safe, supported, and motivated to come to school.
Our Aim: A School Where Everyone Belongs
At The Buckingham School, we strive to create:
- Positive Climates – Where students feel safe, respected, and supported.
- Positive Communities – Where all students feel they belong and are valued.
- Positive Classrooms – Where learning feels purposeful and engaging.
Through our multi-tiered system of support, we aim to ensure that all students are not just attending, but thriving. Click here.
Working together to improve school attendance
We are committed to meeting our obligations with regard to school attendance, including those laid out in the Department for Education’s (DfE’s) statutory guidance on working together to improve school attendance, through our whole-school culture and ethos that values good attendance, including:
- Setting high expectations for the attendance and punctuality of all students
- Promoting good attendance and the benefits of good attendance
- Reducing absence, including persistent and severe absence
- Ensuring every child has access to the full-time education to which they are entitled
- Acting early to address patterns of absence
- Building strong relationships with families to make sure students have the support in place to attend school
