The Buckingham School Achieves ADHD Inclusive School Accreditation

The Buckingham School is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Buckinghamshire ADHD Inclusive School Award, recognising the school’s commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for students with ADHD.

The award was presented by Kirsten Grace (Inclusion Specialist Teacher), and Sarah Luby (Senior Inclusion Specialist Teacher) from Buckinghamshire Council. It followed a rigorous accreditation process that highlighted the school’s dedication to understanding, supporting and championing students with ADHD.

Representing the school at the presentation were Headteacher Mr Andrew McGinnes, Director of SEND Mrs Philippa Lockhart, Lead Deputy Headteacher Mr Matt Wardle, and Classroom Teaching Assistant Natasha Ridden. They were joined by a group of students who have played an important role in supporting and shaping the school’s inclusive practices.

Mr Andrew McGinnes, Headteacher, said:

We are delighted to receive this accreditation, which reflects the commitment of our staff to creating a learning environment where every young person can thrive. We recognise the unique strengths and challenges that can come with ADHD, and we are committed to ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed both academically and personally.

As part of the accreditation process, The Buckingham School has implemented a range of initiatives to support students, staff and families, including:

  • Specialist ADHD training for all staff.
  • An eight-week ADHD support programme for students.
  • Parent workshops on ADHD and ADHD/ASC.
  • Classroom strategy pledges from all teaching staff.
  • Access to ADHD-friendly classroom resources and equipment.
  • Dedicated support through the school’s SS3 support hub.
  • In-class assistance from a roaming Teaching Assistant.
  • Whole-school Zones of Regulation training.
  • Personalised learning pathways for some students.
  • ADHD awareness displays and assemblies.
  • Plans to welcome guest speakers with lived ADHD experience.
  • Student-led work to challenge stigma and improve understanding.

Mrs Lockhart, Director of SEND, added:

Achieving this award is an important milestone, but it is only part of our journey. We will continue to listen to our students and families, develop our practice and ensure that young people with ADHD feel understood, supported and empowered to reach their full potential.

The Buckingham School remains committed to fostering an inclusive culture where every student is valued, supported and encouraged to succeed.
