Work Experience
Year 10 Work Experience
As part of our commitment to preparing students for life beyond the classroom, all students in Year 10 will take part in work experience during Enrichment Week.
During this time, there will be no timetabled lessons – students will spend three days in the workplace with their chosen host employer.
The Purpose of Work Experience
Work experience gives students the opportunity to:
- Discover what type of job or career they might enjoy
- Develop important skills for employment, such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving
- Gain insight into different working environments
- Build experiences that will strengthen their CVs and future applications
We know that work experience can be one of the most transformational and inspiring experiences students have during their education.
Finding a Placement
Students (and their families) are responsible for sourcing their own work experience placements.
This could be with:
- A local business or organisation
- A family connection or friend’s workplace
- A charity or voluntary organisation
Students are not permitted to work from home during these days.
The Careers Leader and Year Group Team will do their best to help students who are unable to secure a placement independently. However, as our capacity is limited, we can only provide additional support for a small number of students.
If your child is struggling to find a placement, please speak to their form tutor as soon as possible.
Managing Work Experience on Unifrog
We’re using Unifrog (www.unifrog.org) to manage all aspects of the work experience administration.
This includes collecting:
- The employer’s Risk Assessment and Health & Safety details
- Parental consent for the placement
- Confirmation from the school that the placement is suitable
Key Steps for Students:
- Agree the placement with the employer first
- Log in to Unifrog and open the Placements Tool on the homepage.
- Add the placement details carefully — including employer contact information.
- Once added, Unifrog will automatically email:
- The employer,
- The parent or caregiver
- The school
- Each party will then complete their section to confirm and approve the placement.
It’s essential that all information entered by the student is accurate for the process to run smoothly.
Extra Help and Guidance
Unifrog provides excellent guides to support both students and parents through the process:
How to…use the Placements Tool - a short animation explaining how to record and confirm placements.
How to help your child find a work placement – practical tips and advice for parents and caregivers - presentation can be viewed by clicking here.
Unifrog’s Placement Guides – a full set of step-by-step resources available on the Unifrog platform.
Students can access these through their Unifrog account, and parents can view them through their parent accounts.
Next Steps
- Read the placement guides on Unifrog.
- Start contacting potential employers to arrange a suitable placement.
- Once confirmed, log the placement on Unifrog so the school, parent, and employer can complete their sections.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact: Ms C Shanahan cshanahan@buckinghamschool.org
We wish all our students the very best in finding their placements and making the most of this exciting opportunity.

Work Experience as an Enrichment option.
Students in Year 12 and Year 13 have the opportunity to take part in work experience as part of their enrichment programme. Those who choose this option will attend their placement every Wednesday during periods 3–5, starting after the October half term. This regular work experience allows students to gain valuable insight into the workplace, develop employability skills, and build meaningful connections in their chosen field alongside their academic studies.
