Transition Journey Timeline
- Welcome letters - will be sent out in March as soon as Buckinghamshire Council send to us the finalised “first round” allocation list of children moving up to The Buckingham School.
- Liaising/Visiting your child's school - we work closely with the primary schools and would under normal circumstances arrange to meet every student who will be joining us in September. As part of the transition team, our Head of Year and former students from the primary school join us for the school visit.
If we are unable to meet students in person this year, we will continue to work closely with Year 6 teachers and SENDCos, to gather as much information about all the children starting with us. A virtual visit will be arranged for the Transition team to meet everyone at their primary school via Google Meet or Zoom.
- Two Day Induction Programme - Induction days are set by Buckinghamshire Council and this year planned for Tuesday 6 July and Wednesday 7 July. At this stage we are uncertain as to whether the format for our Induction will be in person, or a virtual experience. We usually welcome all our new students to a two-day Induction programme. As well as getting to know their new classmates, students have the opportunity to experience lessons, meet their Form Tutor and Year 9 ‘Mentors’ (the Year 9 Mentors are volunteers from our current Year 9 who look after the students during the Induction days and in the first few weeks of the new term in September).
Parents and carers, along with their children, attend a Welcome evening event on the Tuesday evening where we share our vision for your child’s future at The Buckingham School. We are hopeful that we can arrange a similar event and will be communicating our plans later in the term. Our Induction days are traditionally a very exciting and enjoyable experience for all. However, it is worth noting that last year’s virtual Induction session was equally a huge success too.
- Extra Support Sessions throughout the Summer term - we work very closely with the primary schools to ensure all children make a smooth transition. We usually run sessions throughout the summer term for those children who need extra support with the transition from primary to secondary school.
