Year 10 to Year 11 Summer Work
As we draw to the end of the Summer Term, it provides us an opportunity to reflect on the past few months. On a personal level, I am extremely proud of the staff and students who have reacted brilliantly in this unprecedented period; the resilience and the adaptability they have shown has really stood out to me and we look forward to welcoming them back to school in September and looking forward to the year ahead.
We fully appreciate that many of our students will feel anxious for a number of reasons: changed relationships, changed routines and the fear that they have ‘lost’ valuable learning time. This is the feeling that many students across the country will be feeling but I know that our students, through the provision we have been able to continue throughout the lockdown period, will be in a better place than those at other educational establishments.
We have a number of strategies to help students not only reintegrate back into school but also ensure they are confident with their studies as they look ahead to their public exams. One of these strategies will be to provide them with some summer work in each of their subjects.
The setting of summer work is not new - especially to our Sixth Form students or those looking to move into our Sixth Form from Year 11. We are simply rolling it down a year to include the Year 10 into 11 student, as we prepare them for the year ahead.
Work will be set on Google Classroom and we strongly encourage your children to complete the tasks on there. Whilst there is no new knowledge to be learned, the summer work will allow them to revise and consolidate existing knowledge that would have been explicitly taught in the terms that students were learning at home. This will give them and us an excellent foundation to build upon when we do return in September.
Finally, I would like to thank you for your continued support during the past few months. It has certainly been a strange time but we are very much looking forward to welcoming our students back in September and working together to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Take care of yourselves and each other and have a fantastic summer.
Mr D Fox, Deputy Headteacher
