Our School Virtues - By Jessica Gooding

Life In Lockdown

In 40 years
When me and my family have grown old
My grandchildren will ask me:
“How was life in 2020?”
They will be learning about the long, dramatic year of 2020 at school,
They will be shown video footage of “panic buyers”.
I will be asked “Did this really happen?”
I will share my memories that will seem forever ago
I will tell them the stories of how everyone would be itching for the weekly Covid-19 news
Waiting to know if we are allowed to see our family members, our friends;
I will tell them that we had to queue, two metres away from everybody
Just to get basic necessities.
I will tell them how we had to wear masks
I will tell them how we had to wear gloves
I will tell them how we had to wash our hands for 40 seconds, after every time we went out.

To my grandchildren, it will seem unimaginable
But, to me, it will just be a memory.

LOCKDOWN E-LITERATURE

How I continued reading during lockdown…by Georgia King

ADVANTAGES OF EBOOKS

A library away from home - you can browse many ebooks and it is FREE
Enables you to highlight and define words you don’t know
Convenient to use, especially whilst libraries are closed
You can listen to books too, if you would rather this than reading a book yourself
You may need to wait for a book at times, if books are popular, but there is a large selection of books to choose from
You can search and put books on hold so you can read them once you have finished the book you are currently reading

HOW TO READ AN EBOOK

Purchase a Kindle or other ebook readers, ideally with Internet connection, or use your Smart phone,  ipad tablet / device or Chromebook.  I would say a phone screen might cause eye strain, as the screen is small.

Get a library card from your local library  - If under 16 you need your parents signature.  This is free.  A temporary account will be issued, you will eventually have to verify your address in person.  For Buckinghamshire libraries click here…. https://buckinghamshire.spydus.co.uk/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/MSGTRN/WPAC/JOIN

Browse, borrow and read ebooks and audiobooks from your local public library for free by downloading the Overdrive Libby app  https://www.overdrive.com/apps/libby/

Link your Overdrive account to your Kindle account on your kindle

You will need an email address for notifications

OTHER OPTIONS

Another option is to download Audible - but you have to pay for this App
Or I buy e-books direct from Amazon for the Kindle, this is cheaper than buying paperbacks

EBOOKS I RECOMMEND

Raven Boys - Maggie Stiefvater * Percy Jackson - Rick Riordan * Aurora Rising - Amie Kaufman * There Will be Darkness - Katy Rose Pool * Six of Crows - Leigh Bardugo * A Court of Thorns and Roses - Sarah J Maas * The Caraval - Stephanie Garber * Truly Devious - Maureen Johnson * The Mortal Instruments - Cassandra Clare * Circe - Madeline Miller

More from the ‘Perfect Day’ Series, by Megan Fuller

My Perfect Tuesday

At 6:00 I would wake up and post a few videos of myself doing cover songs on YouTube. I would then have my breakfast with Troy in my house. I would then face time my family to see how they are doing and to say ‘Hi’.  I would then do a stretching exercise with Troy and then I would do an archery challenge with him as well. I would then go and do the weekly shopping trip whilst listening to my favourite songs. When I got back I would then walk Bruno and my rat called Ratty with Troy. When I got back I would train my cat called Sapphire to sing the alphabet and I would teach Alfred to talk. I would then eat lunch before going for a jog around the estate. I would then do some reading and I would write a story as well. When I have finished the story I would eat my dinner and then I would perform my own songs on TVs across the world and I would then go to bed at 23:00.

My Perfect Saturday

I would wake up at 5:00 in the morning and walk the dog, pigeon, rat and Fox. When I got back I would make breakfast for me and Troy. I would then watch a movie with Troy and then I would do a Just Dance competition with Troy and virtually with my friends. I would then go on a run and listen to music on my IPod. When I got back I would make lunch for me and Troy and we would eat it outside in the sun. I would then sing some of my songs and write some new ones. I would then read my favourite book out in the sun whilst sunbathing. Then I would go and play football with Troy. After this I would make dinner and then we would watch more movies and then go to bed at 4:00 in the morning.

Next week (13-17 July) is Digital Enrichment Week for Key Stage 3 students. We place huge emphasis on the value of enrichment activities within our curriculum offer and this week would typically have been Enrichment Week. In the current climate, we have looked at how we can still offer our students the opportunity to experience opportunities that they would not normally be given, albeit in a digital format. To read the letter and to see what activities are available, click here. https://www.buckinghamschool.o… details have been uploaded to Google Classroom too. Also, during the week will be two competitions...details will be posted here a little later on. #WeAreBuckinghamSchool #Proud…
